FAD MAGAZINE - MISS SUBWAY NYC IS A LANDMARK SOLO EXHIBITION BY TRAILBLAZING ARTIST LADY PINK

Lady Pink’s “Miss Subway NYC” marks a groundbreaking solo debut in the UK
In July 2025, D’Stassi Art in Shoreditch unveiled Miss Subway NYC, a landmark solo exhibition by legendary graffiti artist Lady Pink. Central to the show is a full‑scale reconstruction of a 1980s New York City subway station, complete with era‑specific graffiti, textures, and soundscapes—effectively transporting visitors into the gritty heart of her early artistic terrain

A retrospective journey through her subway origins
The exhibition blends newly commissioned works with archival pieces, sketches, and early‑career ephemera, celebrating Lady Pink’s evolution from teenage graffiti writer to internationally recognised artist. She recalls discovering graffiti at age 12 from the Bronx Zoo elevated trains and describes subway painting as a “boot camp for artists” where galleries of the moving trains became both challenge and inspiration.

Cultural reflection and personal narrative
Titled with a nod to the historic Miss Subways beauty pageant of the 1940s–70s, the show features a self‑portrait of Lady Pink as “Miss Subways 2025,” complete with sash homage . It also dives into the lasting legacy of the subway—once scuttled into the ocean or transformed into collectors’ pieces—sparked by her diptych imagining a post‑apocalyptic village. Personal stories deepen the work’s impact: her husband, a former subway operator, faced retaliation from the Vandal Squad, and she continues to use her platform to address censorship, gender bias, and support emerging artists
