Empty Consumption: A Bold Exploration of Individuality in a Viral-Driven World
D'Stassi Art is excited to announce Empty Consumption, a dynamic and thought-provoking exhibition that challenges the saturation of consumer culture and the commodification of art, culture, and identity. Curated by Outside the Zone, this show brings together six of London’s brightest emerging street artists in an exhibition that highlights the collision of street art and studio practice, blending them into a fresh mode of pop futurism. Empty Consumption marks D’Stassi Art’s final exhibition of 2024 and will run from 6th December to 20th December 2024 at our Hoxton location.
What is the True Meaning of Individuality in the Digital Age?
In an era dominated by viral trends and globalisation, how does one maintain a sense of individuality? Empty Consumption confronts this question head-on. This exhibition challenges the overexposed, often cookie-cutter world of consumerism, presenting a counter-narrative that asserts the importance of personal expression and freedom. The artists in this show offer a protest against the tide of viral content, using their work as a rebellion against the commodification of identity and art.
D'Stassi Art continues to reject the traditional, institutional formulas of modern galleries. Instead, this exhibition reflects our commitment to celebrating difference and experimentation. It showcases works that explore the impact of consumer culture on personal identity through both abstract and cohesive installations. The space will host a visual dialogue about the addictive nature of consumerism and its impact on personal expression—both on an individual and collective level.
The Main Gallery: Pop Futurism and Large-Scale Works
The downstairs gallery will feature large-scale works that push the boundaries of street and studio art. With their powerful imagery and bold statements, these pieces exemplify the evolving ethos of Pop Futurism, capturing the present moment while looking ahead to what’s to come. Each artist brings their unique perspective to the conversation, creating an electrifying atmosphere that encourages viewers to question the role of consumerism in shaping society.
The Front of House Gallery: Live Art and Artist Residency
In a first for D'Stassi Art, the upstairs gallery space will transform into a live artist residency. From 2nd December, this immersive space will feature live art-making, where artists engage with visitors in real-time as they create new works. Small-scale pieces made during the residency will be displayed and available for purchase, offering visitors an exclusive opportunity to witness the creation process and engage with the artists on a personal level. The residency emphasizes the connection between production, consumerism, and individuality.
