Angel 'LAII' Ortiz (Ecuadorian-American b. 1964)

Lady Pink was born in Ecuador, raised in NYC, and now lives just north of the city. She began writing graffiti in 1979 and quickly gained recognition as one of the only women to compete on equal footing with her male peers. From 1979 to 1985, she painted subway trains across New York and starred in the 1982 film Wild Style, securing her place as a cult figure in the early hip-hop scene.

She began exhibiting in galleries while still in high school and had her first solo show at age 21. Her work now belongs to major collections including the Whitney, the Met, the Brooklyn Museum, the MFA Boston, and MoMA. She has also collaborated with Louis Vuitton, Supreme, and Lancôme.

Today, Lady Pink continues to create new work while mentoring the next generation through global mural workshops and university lectures.
